Created with white chalk, yellow ochre and orange sandstone, Her Borrowed Stardust, Returned Too Soon takes its title from Maria Popova’s writing in The Universe in Verse, which reflects on the premature loss of remarkable women in science and the arts. This work honours those brilliant minds of the past, celebrating their wisdom and the inspiration they continue to provide. May we be fortunate to have many more women like them in our lives.

Part of the Of Soil and Starlight collection, this painting explores our bond with the earth and the unseen cosmos above. It speaks to the cycles that shape us — departure, discovery, and return — reminding us that even as we reach outward into the unknown, the earth continues to hold us steady.

Material: Created with handmade watercolours on natural linen canvas, this original painting is sealed with a UV-protective matte varnish. Please note: Unframed; hand-stretched and ready to hang.
Framing options: This painting is available with a custom solid oak frame, finished with a light linseed oil stain to highlight the wood’s natural grain. A framed mockup is shown in the photos. Framing incurs an additional charge; please email me to arrange this.
